overview of the apprenticeship system in Newfoundland and Labrador to students
and to encourage them to consider the "trades" as a career option. The CD
is designed to give users an overview of the apprenticeship system, its
history and its benefits. It provides practical information to students
interested in becoming an apprentice in a clear, concise, and easy-to-read
format.

Orientation to Apprenticeship Key Features:
"Orientation to Apprenticeship" is divided into five sections:
- History:
This section provides students with an overview of the evolution of apprenticeship training, from ancient times, through the guilds, to present day apprenticeship.
- Models:
This section describes each of the five models of modern-day apprenticeship training: block, modified block, internship, co-op and youth training.
- Trades:
A description of each of the forty-four trades is made available to students in this section. Included with each trade is a job description, course outline, requirements, and related trades section.
- Certification:
This section introduces Red Seal Certification and explains how a student can become certified in a trade. Topics explored include: steps an employer and apprentice need to take in order to achieve Red Seal Certification, the use of the log book, and general conditions and regulations governing apprenticeship training.
- Benefits:
This section describes the benefits of apprenticeship training for both the employer and the apprentice
