Key Features : |
- Players
The Players are very much what liveDJpro is all about. Without
the Players, you couldn't really complete your DJ system. liveDJpro
offers up to 10* Players, each individually configurable.
Players offer a whole host of features. You can mark Players
as independent so they can be used as a kind of "spare" audio
Player or use them while being attached to a Playlist (as shown
above). You also have complete control over the Pitch, Tempo
and Rate (and the factors for each). A clear VU meter and clear
time displays show exactly what's going on. And of course, the
useful toolbar which is completely configurable, along with
the keyboard shortcuts.
Features of a Player include:
- Visible waveform of the media file
- Silence detection to avoid gaps at the start and end of the tracks
- BPM calculation
- Define your own start and end points if you don't want to use silence detection
- Define up to 10 loops and 10 general marker points per media file
- Fully supports intelligent drag and drop
- Play the output of any Player through any soundcard
- Sample Players
Some DJs can have hundreds or even thousands of sound samples
(or carts, as they are sometimes called) depending on the size
of their venue. liveDJpro makes a breeze of managing large amounts
of sound samples. liveDJpro offers up to 10* Sample Players,
all being able to access any one of 100* Sample Banks. Each
Sample Bank can store 200 samples. This gives instant access
to a maximum of 20,000 Samples at any one time. If that's not
enough, you can easily search for more and play them within
a few seconds.
The image above shows a simple Sample Player configuration.
It's only 5 Samples wide by 4 Samples high. This can be extended
to 10 Samples wide by 20 Samples high.
Of course, due to the nature of liveDJpro, Sample access can
be configured through the keyboard to your exact requirements.
liveDJpro's unique access method allows you to view your Sample's
in grid formation and easily play the track you want, either
using the mouse or the keyboard. As the image shows above, you
can see that keyboard control is easy with the Sample Player.
For example, if you wanted to play the 'Chart 7' Sample, simply
press E (to highlight the third column) and then press 3 (to
play the highlighted Sample on that row).
Features of a Sample Player include:
- Resize a Sample Player to your desired width and height
- Full keyboard control
- Play up to 5 Samples simultaneously on each Sample Player
- Define up to 100 Sample Banks and access them from any Sample Player
- Switch between Sample Banks instantly
- Play the output of any Sample Player through any soundcard
- Playlists
As DJs, we all like to be prepared, and that's what Playlists are for.
The "top/remove" which you can see in the image shows which
mode is being used to take media from the list. This means that
each track transferred to a Player from this particular Playlist
will come from the top of the list and then get removed from
the list. You can change this mode depending on what your Playlist
is being used for. For example, if liveDJpro is simply being
used to loop a Playlist around then you should use the "Random"
mode which will select a track at random and keep the Playlist
in tact.
As you'd expect, the Playlist tool bar is completely configurable
as with the other Windows.
So why have more than one Playlist? After you'd experienced
it, you'll wonder how you ever managed without more than one
Playlist. Imaging having you night planned perfectly by keeping
different music types in different Playlists. Depending on your
customers' reaction, you can easily switch between music genres
at the click of a button. You can also load and save other Playlists
while still using another Playlist to play your music. This
makes browsing other Playlists on your computer a breeze without
affecting your live playback.
The contents of each Playlist are automatically saved when the
application closed so everything remains the same when you reload
liveDJpro. You can also see in an instant how long your Playlist
is (in time) plus the total duration of the selected items.
As above, you can see that the Playlist is over 6 hours long
and the user has selected 1 hour and 39 minutes worth of items.
- Queries
Each Query Window can be set to search in a completely different
location than the others. For example, you may have the first
Query Window only looking in a folder called Samples. The second
Query Window could look in the rest of your folders. This would
essentially create a Query Window dedicated to searching for
only Samples. By default, all of your local drives are searched
for media files, but you can change this very easily using the
"Media" tab as shown in the image.
Each time a media file is found, information about it is entered
into the Media Database. This speeds up any searches that you
perform in the future.

You can also accurately add the correct duration of items to
a Playlist by checking the Query window status bar. As you can
see from the image above, four tracks have been selected totalling
14 minutes and 28 seconds in total.
- Mixers
Mixers help you to control the smooth fading in and out of your Players. liveDJpro allows you have up to 10* Mixers simultaneously available.
This mixer here is set to the default preferences. If you look at the bottom right of the Mixer, the status bar shows which Players will use this Mixer. This means that Player 3 will be fading out and Player 4 will be fading in.
Right-clicking on the Mixer image brings up other useful features including a number of default presets, user presets and the ability to save the current mixer configuration under a specific name. Up to 10 user presets can be saved. These presets are conveniently saved with the application so it is not necessary to load them when you restart
The Prefade function will fade out the currently playing track without starting the next track.
- Filters
Filters mainly operate in tandem with the Query Windows and are especially useful for completely automated environments and/or systems with an extremely large list of available media files.
Searching for a track can be quite easy if you know what you
are looking for. However, it may be necessary to narrow down
your search. Filters allow you to specify information relating
to the media files you are looking for. For example, you could
run a search and only show the media files that have played
at least five times before, or played within the last 7 days.
Filters can be configured in millions of different ways, which is why they are so simple to use. Up to 10* Filters can used simultaneously, and each filter can have 20 rows and 2 columns of criteria.
The image here shows a very simple Filter with only two criteria.
If this Filter was being used by a Query Window, only media
files that are longer than 3 minutes in duration and have been
played 5 or more times would show in the search results. Of
course, you can save Filters into small files and keep as many
as you need. You can then load the Filters whenever you require
them. Using Filter files allows you to load common Filters so
you can use them over and over again.
- Context menu and tool bar driven
At first glance, there doesn't appear to be much going on with liveDJpro. But there is a lot behind the scenes. Context menus consist of a list of function relating to the object that you right-clicked. For example, a Playlist in liveDJpro on it's own looks quite basic, but, if you right click on the Playlist, a whole host of available functions appear out of nowhere such as Load, Save, Save as, Shuffle, rename and Select.
This is how liveDJpro keeps neat and tidy without cluttering the screen with things you don't need.
Then we have the tool bars. Most Windows have their own tool bar and, if it's the Main Window or a primary Window, the tool bars can be configured to react to key press combinations.
